Nice read, but I feel for a team like India whose tail is often long, you can't bracket the batting innings into 12 balls per batsman, can you?

May be you divide 120 by 7, which gives about 17 deliveries per batsman.

I believe there is room for one anchor in a top T20 side and Kohli is the best at this role imo. The problem is when we play too many anchor type batsmen. Rohit, Rahul, Dhawan, Iyer when played with Kohli, the problem of Kohli gets accentuated.

My best T20 XI from the pool of players in India at the moment is

Kishan

Samson

SKY

Pant

H Pandya

Jadeja

Thakur

Bhuvi

V Chakravarty

Bumrah

Such nice insights. I think anyone who has watched Kohli play between overs 6 to 15 will not include him in their T20 line-up. It's a no risk, no reward equation. Scoring 40 from 35 balls is considered as good by many when compared with 25 of 15 because of the bias towards average.

Anyone who has watched him play in the t20 World Cup will definitely pick him unless they want India to lose

Hi, no need to defend Kohli here. Not questioning his ability. He's a truly great player, no doubts on that. The last T20 World cup happened FIVE YEARS ago and his game has declined significantly since then. It was followed by his magnificently 973 run stint in the IPL. This is no longer the case, he plays too slow for T20 standards trying to limit his dismissals. Nobody knows why he has taken the approach of playing a very risk-free slow innings framework which hampers any team he's part of. Like Kartikeya has mentioned, his batting approach gets a team to 159 runs. I have no hard feelings towards Kohli and he is infact one of my favourite players but it's just that the current version of VK is not good to warrant a place in India team. He would still be good if we didn't have the likes of Shaw, Surya and Kishan in T20s. Please don't look at the rear mirror to judge this, the game is about the what's the current stats. If the Kohli of 2016 was playing today, he would definitely be the first choice in the team.

Kohli literally won mos in his very last international series. He is clearly our best player by some distance. This blogger thinks even 2016 Kohli is merely average (lol). Don't judge based on recent IPL performances and look at his international stats.

He is still in the team ,no one can touch his place and for your kind information Indian team has 1 kohli not 11 ,so keep these useless in your brain.

Extremely laughable post. Kohli is by far India's best t20 batsman and it's not even close . Blindly looking at stats is stupid without context. Kohli single handedly carried the team the last two world t20s and has the ability to perform under pressure. Fill your team with blind sloggers and watch them fall apart in any hint of difficult conditions or pressure.

Why do you get so offended about what he has to say about Kohli ? You could agree to disagree.

Knowing Kohli will be captaining the side, can this problem be addressed if Kohli opens and starts to play with a higher strike rate? From my understanding after the last T20 game in the series with England, Kohli and Rohit will look to open, meaning Rahul will potentially lose his place.

Kohli

Rohit

Kishan

SKY

Pant

Hardik

Jadeja

Sundar

Kumar

Siraj

Bumrah, would possibly be the combination India will go, potentially swapping Chahal with Siraj in UAE, going with three spinners

Have a look at kohli s strike rate in t20is.moreover he has been our best batsmen in t20 world cups and he scored very well in t20 world cup knockouts as well.

I am trying to understand how Rohit Sharma with a lower strike rate and lower avg is considered a better fit for T20I and how he estimated as more risk taking than Kohli. Also, there is a thing called recent form right? Kohli has improved his SR since 2019. Similarly S Dhawan has improved his attacking shot percentage since 2018. Don't those factors play a role? I am not interested in defending Kohli, but surely there are gaps in how you apply your logic?

Very well-written article, been frustrated that even commentary panels and experts don't seem to realize or point out that T20 batting is being on the conservative side. However, Kohli is one of the most skillful batters in world cricket, I would phrase it as Kohli should be changing his approach rather than dropping him from the team. Also, V.Chakvarthy is the only spinner that can be trusted to perform on 180-190 run pitches. Jadeja/Sundar can't be relied upon imo.
